While studying at Srishti School of Art and Design, I attended the International Genetically Engineered Machines (IGEM) held at MIT in 2009. Our team delved into the ethical issues of genetic engineering and we synthesised geosmin with the help of National College for Biological Sciences (NCBS). Geosmin is a compound responsible for the earthly smell of early rains. The learning process was very fruitful, especially while examining synthetic biology from an artistic point of view. Eventually, our team won the 'Best Presentation' award at IGEM.
